Michael Thoms, baritone, holds a Master of Music degree in vocal performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University and a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from Northern Illinois University. Michael has maintained a private voice lesson studio since 2003 teaching students from high school age through adult. His students have achieved distinction through placement in collegiate music performance, education, and theater programs across the country. Many of these students, as well as those not pursuing music-related degrees, have been awarded a variety of scholarships based on their musical skills.  High school students have regularly earned placements in the ILMEA district and state level ensembles, have been cast in shows and musicals, participate in solo/ensemble competitions, and participate in studio recitals.  Equally at home on the concert stage, Mr. Thoms has sung in numerous opera productions. Highlights include Nixon in China with Chicago Opera Theater, The Mikado at the Chicago Cultural Center, and productions of Benjamin Britten operas with the Millennium Chamber Players. He has been a soloist in concerts with the Elgin Symphony and the Metropolis Chamber Orchestra and currently sings with professional chamber choirs-St. Charles Singers and Cor Cantiamo.  Through participation in these ensembles, he has had the privilege of collaborating with some of the current leading composers and directors including John Rutter, Morten Lauridsen, Philip Moore, Craig Hella Johnson, James Whitbourn, Timothy Takach, Libby Larsen, and Dominick DiOrio.  Additionally, Mr. Thoms sings with the Choral Scholars of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Naperville. He currently lives in Aurora with his wife, Jennifer, and son, Abram.  Together they enjoy hiking, travel, photography, and cooking.
