Jeff Hunt

Jeffrey Hunt is the music director of the St .Charles Singers, a chamber choir he founded in 1984 in St. Charles, Illinois.  The ensemble includes a cadre of 45-50 skilled singers living in the Chicagoland area.  Typically, 28 to 36 singers perform at each concert.  The choir gives subscription concerts throughout Chicago and surrounding area.  Baker Memorial United Methodist Church in St. Charles is its principal venue. The Choir has performed nationally at regional ACDA conventions and internationally.  In the summer of 2017, the choir gave its debut solo performance at the prestigious summer Ravinia Festival.  In 2018, the choir was invited to perform at the Chorus America Conference in Chicago, IL. Guest conductors of the ensemble include John Rutter, Timothy Brown, Craig Hella Johnson, Robert Hansen, Rossen Milanov, Philip Moore, Jannette Sorrell and James Conlon. 

St. Charles Singers can be heard on four commercial recordings including: Naxos, American Classics recording with the Elgin Symphony Orchestra of music by Aaron Copland, Christmas in St. Charles and I Know Where I’m Going both on the Proteus Entertainment label and Bushes and Briars, on the MSR label.  A new recording of American music will be released in 2018 with MSR.

The choir is currently more than half way through its “Mozart Journey” a historic undertaking of 17 concerts through which the complete known volume of Mozart’s sacred choral compositions will be performed and recorded.  The choir regularly commissions new choral works. Composers have included: John Rutter, George Shearing, Charles Forsberg, Guyla Feketa, Robert Boyd, Nathanial Adams and Scott Stevenson. 

Jeff is Director of Music at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church in St. Charles where he leads the music program.  Jeff is also on the faculty at Elgin Community College in Elgin, IL and is active in both ACDA and Chorus America.  He received a B.M. from Taylor University and an M.M. in Choral Conducting from Northwestern University.
