Originally from Elmhurst, Brian Smith now lives and teaches in Aurora. He received his Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Aurora University, as well as a Bachelor of Music Education degree with an emphasis in choral music from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  While at the University of Illinois, Brian spent two summers working with fine arts students at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, including a performance tour to Germany, France, and Luxembourg.

Brian is the Director of Choirs at West Aurora High School where he has taught A Cappella Choir, Bel Canto Choir, Lyric Chorus, Mixed Ensemble, Varsity Singers, STUDyhall, Acabelles, and Madrigal Singers. While at West Aurora, Brian has also taught AP Music Theory and established the school’s Digital Music Production program.

Brian is an active member of the Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA), and American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). His students have been selected for ILMEA District, All-State and Honors All-State Choirs as well as the ACDA National Honor Choirs. The West Aurora A Cappella Choir performed at IMEC in 2022.

Brian currently lives in Aurora with his wife Morgan, daughter Athalia, and rescue dog Elliot.
