Evelyn is a Hong Kong–born chorister and music educator whose musical life began in competitive children’s choirs, where she performed actively from ages 6 to 14. Growing up in a multilingual environment, she speaks English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, and her early training included piano, guitar, clarinet, and voice. The eclectic foundation later shaped her versatility as a musician.
Evelyn later earned her Bachelor of Choral Music Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she sang in multiple ensembles and deepened her skills in sight-reading, score study, choral conducting, and chamber music. Her performance experience spans Renaissance madrigals, twentieth-century vocal works, and major choral–orchestral repertoire, with a growing interest in historically informed performance and contemporary choral writing.
She currently serves as Choir Director at Bureau Valley High School, Junior High and Elementary School, where she leads ensembles across grades 5–12, prepares students for adjudicated events, and expands access to high-level choral experiences. Her teaching emphasizes musical curiosity, ensemble cohesion, and expressive singing.
As a performer, Evelyn is particularly drawn to the clarity and text-driven expressivity of early music as well as the harmonic color and rhythmic vitality of contemporary works. She continues to pursue ensemble opportunities that challenge her musicianship while allowing her to contribute thoughtfully to the choral community.
