St. Charles Singers are pleased to offer one scholarship from the organization’s R. Gordon Hinners Scholarship Fund to graduating seniors from Batavia, Community High School-West Chicago, Geneva, Kaneland, Wheaton Academy, Wheaton North or Wheaton-Warrenville South High Schools, and this year as well, for alumni of the SING! Workshop for Teens.
Any student who is planning to participate in choral music throughout the student’s college experience is encouraged to apply. Applicants need not be music majors to apply for this scholarship. A strong desire to further one’s choral experience in college is the basic requirement for application.
These scholarships are an important mission of St. Charles Singers. The ensemble has greatly benefited from having many choral scholars active over the years in the ensemble’s music making. St. Charles Singers is also committed to the community in which many of its performances take place and where it is financially supported. The choir wishes to give back to the greater community in which we serve and when possible, share our love and passion for choral music.
Students interested in applying should print and fill out the application and read about the other requirements for submission. The application deadline for all submissions if April 7, 2017.
About Gordon Hinners
Gordon Hinners was a businessman in the Tri Cities with an avid avocation in music. For 40 years he was the Music Director at Fox Valley Presbyterian Church. From their beginnings, Gordy was involved with the St. Charles Art and Music festival and the St. Charles Singers. When Gordy died in 1995, The Festival began an endowment under his name. In 2004, The Festival closed its doors, and the monies were given to the Singers enabling them to endow scholarships in choral music. The scholarships will be used to aid these young people in their freshman year of college.
Each year the winners of these scholarships will help to secure Gordon’s love of music and education. We thank all of those who contributed to the endowment in the past, allowing the Singers this opportunity to give a legacy to the world of music.
