Mozart Journey XV, St. Charles Singers with Metropolis Orchestra

Program: Benedictus sit Deus, K117, scored for soprano, alto, tenor and bass soloists. Played at the world premiere of Mozart’s “Dominicus Mass” in C Major, K66 (also on the program); the German passion aria Kommet her, ihr frechen Sünder in B-flat Major, K146, and fragments of uncompleted choral works, including Kyrie in C Major, K323. A pre-concert lecture is offered one hour prior to performance time.

 

Yoga to Mozart (for all skill levels) Sat Aug 24, 9:00 am

St. Charles Singers soprano Meredith Taylor DuBon, a licensed yoga instructor, will lead this outdoor session. Bring your towel, and we suggest a double mat for your comfort on the plaza.

 

 

Midday Mozart Garden Party/Brunch

Garden parties were the setting for many presentations of Mozart’s compositions. Join us for a midday party featuring 2 chamber concerts and lunch with the Maestro. Seating is limited.

 

11:00 am Metropolis Chamber Ensemble will feature Mozart, and two composers whom he admired: Joseph Michael Haydn, younger brother of the famed Franz Joseph Haydn, and Johann Christian Bach, the youngest son of Johann Sebastian Bach. Works will include Mozart’s Quartet in D Major for flute and strings, K. 285; J. M. Haydn’s Divertimento in C Major, P. 115, for English horn, violin, cello and double bass; J.C. Bach’s Quintet in D Major, Op. 11, No. 6, and more. Interludes will be filled with enlightening anecdotes shared by the instrumentalists.

 

12:30 pm Lunch with the Maestro, Lunch and conversation with Director Jeff Hunt.

 

1:30 pm St. Charles Singers Choral Ensemble, SCS ensemble concerts are always popular, in part because these small settings allow the audience to hear and appreciate the individual Singers and their voices. This recital will feature several members of the choir in solo, duet and ensemble, performing works selected especially for the Mozart Festival.
