The next Sing! Workshop for Teens is on Thursday, July 23, 2020.  Sing! is a fun, one-day gathering of teens and young adults who enjoy ensemble singing.  Led by clinicians who are also St. Charles Singers, participants will work in ensembles and as a “mass choir” and may sign up for an optional independent vocal coaching session.  Many students who attend Sing! return again and again.   Because of this enthusiasm, and at the request of Sing! alumni, there is now a college component of Sing!, designed for students majoring in vocal performance and/or choral conducting.    For more information about the high school or college components of Sing! 2020 visit https://stcharlessingers.com/scs_site/wp-admin/post.php?post=70&action=edit

Each summer, armed with pencils, sheet music and an eagerness to SING, about 50 area high school students participate in the annual SING! Workshop for Teens sponsored by St. Charles Singers.  Since 2012 freshmen through seniors from area schools spend a day focused on the art and joy of ensemble singing.

High school students are divided into small ensemble groups to prepare two songs, working with music teachers who are also members of St. Charles Singers.  There is an additional session in which all ensembles join together to prepare several more songs.  The music is presented in the evening, at the community concert that concludes the workshop.

As an option, you may choose to sign up for individual vocal coaching sessions with local professional voice coaches.   This very popular option is especially beneficial to those who plan to major in music education or vocal performance.

To sign up for the Sing! workshop, first complete the pre-application to indicate your interest.  This will generate an email to parents to complete the application, sign waivers and provide payment through PayPal.

Sing! College Ensemble Application:  For college singers and music education majors

Sing! College Ensemble 2020 – Application

(Must have completed one year of college to participate.)

Last year, with help from enthusiastic Sing! alumni,  a college choral laboratory workshop was added.  The day-long session is student directed by the choral music and choral conducting majors who participate.  This laboratory experience is a great opportunity for college music students to support each other in an encouraging, outside the classroom, learning environment.  We are pleased to offer the laboratory program again this year.

To further enhance the experience, St. Charles Singers has added a Director’s Workshop, 6:00 to 8:30 pm on Wednesday, July 23.  A lab choir will be composed of an ensemble of St. Charles Singers and participating college students, giving music education majors a place to practice their trade and get feedback.  On Thursday, July 22, the full-day Sing! workshop will allow participants to prepare the College Ensemble for the evening’s concert.

St. Charles Singers is committed to providing educational programming for students to broaden their opportunities to be exposed to great choral music.  St. Charles Singers is under the music direction of Jeffrey Hunt.
