Armed with pencils, sheet music, sack lunches, and an eagerness to learn, about 50 area high school students participated in the second annual SING! 2012 Festival sponsored by St Charles Singers. On July 19, 2012 freshmen through seniors joined from six area schools to spend a day honing their choral music skills.
Some students signed up for individual vocal coaching sessions with Amanda Brex-Castillo and Anthony Quranta. Others were divided into four ensemble groups training with seasoned high school music teachers, Lori Bormet, Bob Boyd, Andy Jeffrey, Laura Johnston, and Brian Kunstman.
Throughout the day the students worked on choral and vocal techniques while preparing a series of pieces which would be performed that evening for parents in friends.Individual vocal coaching was available throughtout the day with professsional vocal teachers.
“This is a great opportunity for students to learn skills such as singing with people with whom they have never sung”, remarked Lori Bormet, choral music conductor at Walther Lutheran High School in Oak Park. “Learning to blend and create an ensemble with new friends is something most students don’t get a chance to do in school,”
St Charles Singers is committed to providing educational programming for students to broaden their opportunities to be exposed to great choral music.
